Jill Moss (BA Hons in Broadcast Journalism, University of Westminster (1996) BA Business and marketing innovation( 2017)University of Hertfordshire

Jill was born in London and worked as a child actor in theatre and film, she trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London and later worked as a journalist/presenter in television and radio.  In 2004 Following a badly managed infection and untimely death of Jill’s beloved ten-year-old Samoyed dog Bella, Jill set up the Bella Moss foundation charity to highlight the issue of resistant infections in pets. 

"Ironically, it took the loss of Bella to MRSA, and me acquiring the same strain of MRSA which led to the important work of founding a charity which promotes change in human and animal health." 
Twenty years on, Bella Moss Foundation is the only charity linking humans and animals with resources to prevent the spread of diseases. Our free education tools on infection control, one health and antibiotic stewardship are resources veterinary practices and pet owners rely on. 

The Bella Moss Foundation is run by volunteers and has no paid staff.

Fergus Allerton, Trustee

Fergus Allerton graduated from the University of Bristol in 2004 and completed a residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Liege, Belgium. He is a diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Medicine and currently works at Willows Referral Service. Fergus is actively involved in veterinary antibiotic stewardship and contributed to the development of the PROTECT ME guidelines. Within ENOVAT he prepared recommendations for antibiotic use for surgical prophylaxis and canine acute diarrhoea. He is the current editor of Companion and the 10^th, 11^th and 12^th Editions of the BSAVA formulary, a member of the WSAVA Therapeutic Guidelines Group and clinical medicine lead for RCVS Knowledge.

Ian Battersby BVSc DSAM DipECVIM-CA FRCVS, Trustee

Ian graduated from Bristol University in 1998. He worked in mixed practice /small animal practice before completing a four-year residency in Small Animal Internal Medicine at Bristol and was awarded the RCVS and European Diplomas in Small Animal Internal Medicine in 2005 and RCVS Specialist status in 2007.

Ian spent the majority of his clinical career in the internal medicine department at Davies Veterinary Specialists during which he became head of service. During 2022-2025 he was the Global Pharmaceutical Stewardship lead for Mars Veterinary Health. 

Ian has worked on a variety of committees in different roles and chaired the Small Animal Medicine Society. Ian also chaired the group which developed the BSAVA/SAMSOC, ‘ARE YOU PROTECTING?’ antibiotic campaign in 2012. 

He was awarded the BSAVA Melton award in 2013 for meritorious contributions to small animal practice and became a fellow of the Royal College of veterinary Surgeons in 2017.

Ian’s other interests include rabies elimination in underdeveloped countries, and he is trustees of the charity Mission Rabies and Worldwide Veterinary Service. He is a member of the DEFRA Core Rabies Group and a specialist's advisor to the charity Street Vet

Christopher James Laurence MBE QVRM TD BVSc FRCVS

Chris Laurence studied veterinary medicine at Bristol University, qualifying  as a veterinary surgeon in 1968 and went into mixed practice in Somerset.  A year later he moved to Chippenham in Wiltshire to take up small animal practice at the Hale Veterinary Group where he remained until 1998.  Chris was subsequently Chief Veterinary Officer at the RSPCA and Veterinary Director of Dogs Trust. He retired in August 2011. He was awarded the MBE for services to animal welfare in 2007 and granted Fellowship of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2017.

Chris is currently Chairman of the Canine and Feline Sector Group of the England Health and Welfare Board and Treasurer of the Central Veterinary Society.  He is also involved in a number of charities.  He is Chairman of the Animal Welfare Foundation and the British Veterinary Behaviour Association.  He is also a Trustee of the Pet Blood Bank, the Bella Moss Foundation, the North Wiltshire Branch of the RSPCA and Treasurer of the Animal Behaviour and Training Council.  Outside the profession, he is Chairman of the Oxfordshire Yeomanry Trust and the Queen’s Own Oxfordshire Hussars Association, a Director of the Soldiers of Oxfordshire Trust Ltd and Treasurer of Tytherton Village Hall.

Chris had a lengthy career in the Royal Signals, Territorial Army, retiring with the rank of Colonel in 2002.  He was awarded the Queen’s Volunteer Reserves Medal in the 2002 Queen’s Birthday Honours.

Chris has been married to Sheila since 1969 and has two children and four grandchildren.  Sadly, he currently has no pets.

Dr Neil A Forbes BVetMed DipECZM(avian) FRCVS

Past Trustee and author of the infection control guidelines 

Neil graduated from RVC in 1983, commencing practice in Cumbria, moving to Stroud Gloucestershire, to be close to International Bird of Prey Centre and WWT Slimbridge in 1984.

Neil gained his RCVS Specialist Zoo & Wildlife (avian) in 1992, FRCVS by examination in Exotic Bird Medicine in 1995, Dip European College of Avian Medicine in 1996, then catalysing its change into the European College of Zoological Medicine.

Neil is Past President of the European College of Zoological Medicine and also the European Board of Veterinary Specialists. Neil set up Great Western Referrals in 2004, selling it to Vets Now in 2011.

For ten years Neil was a visiting Fellow at Bristol University, with responsibility for teaching Avian Medicine. Neil has taught avian medicine on the MSc in Wildlife at ZSL, for BSAVA, Improve, VetPD and many other training providers for over 35 years. Neil has been an active veterinary CPD provider, in the UK, many EU countries, Australia, USA, South Africa, China, lecturing not only in avian medicine, but also veterinary forensics, veterinary practice management, antimicrobial resistance, infection control and nosocomial infection, for over 25 years. Neil was instrumental in setting up the BVNA Infection Control Training course. He has had more than 88 papers published in peer review, impact rated international veterinary journals and has written, edited or contributed to over 38 books.

Neil was lead assessor for Forensic Veterinary Practitioners with the CRFP. Neil set up and has provided training to falconers and vets in the husbandry, management and veterinary care of birds of prey for over 30 years.

Neil has been a UK List 1 Zoo Inspector for some 15 years and also now a Zoo Inspector in Ireland. Neil has instrumental in setting up the Vulture Alliance, he has acted as a Trustee for the International Centre for Birds of Prey and remains a Trustee for the Manfred Horstmann Vulture Conservation Trust. Neil remains active working for vulture conservation, through research, and by training local rehabilitators and veterinary surgeons, predominantly in Africa.

Neil has received multiple UK and International Awards, he has published over 86 Scientific peer reviewed papers, contributed to 38 books and lecturing internationally for over 30 years.

Neil has recently concluded a 13 veterinary practice, four month research trial investigating veterinary practice hygiene, the findings of which are currently In Press. Neil is passionate in his ambition to make an international improvement in the standard of infection control and biosecurity in veterinary practice.

Over his career Neil has won many international academic achievement and professional recognition awards, including career achievement awards in USA, Europe and UK.

She was Lead Assessor for the RCVS Practice Standards Scheme until very recently. She has worked in first opinion practice for most of her career.

Pam is a huge advocate of good biosecurity and infection control in veterinary practices.

She is also an SQP assessor for AMTRA and edits the BSAVA Guide to the Use of Veterinary Medicines and organises the BSAVA Dispensing Course.

Pam has been involved in establishing Quality Improvement resources for the veterinary practice team. She is passionate about QI becoming part of the normal working day for veterinary teams and contributing to a just learning culture in practice.

Amelia Sherwood RVN

Bella Moss Foundation veterinary nurse educator

Amelias’ nursing career began in 2008 and having worked in various clinical settings including GP and emergency practice she is currently Head Nurse and Clinical Coach in a busy first opinion practice in South Wales.

In addition to recently completing the ESVPS NCert in Anaesthesia (final results pending) Amelia has keen interests in wound management and improving clinical standards.

She lectured nationally on wound management for 6 years and spent many years on the marking board for BVNA certificate case studies and clinical audits. Additionally, Amelia had moderated on the BSAVA Merit Award and VetNurse.co.uk forum and written an article published by The Veterinary Nurse.

Divya Ng 
 
Divya is a BVM&S student at the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, University of Edinburgh. Originally from Hong Kong, she brings an international perspective and hopes to help spread awareness of antimicrobial stewardship globally. After learning Bella’s story, she felt deeply moved and motivated to help prevent similar tragedies through education and advocacy.

She joined the Bella Moss Foundation to support outreach that helps pet owners understand the importance of responsible antimicrobial use and its impact on animal welfare, human health, and the shared environment. With a strong interest in the One Health approach, Divya is passionate about connecting veterinary and human medicine through practical, compassionate owner education, contributing to a more informed and hopeful community.

Nicole Kelly

Nicole is studying Veterinary Medicine at the University of Edinburgh and is due to graduate in 2027. She has a strong academic interest in veterinary antibiotic stewardship and the responsible use of antimicrobials within a One Health framework. In particular, Nicole is interested in infectious disease and veterinary policy. She is committed to promoting sustainable approaches to antimicrobial use that safeguard the health of animals, people and the wider environment. Alongside her studies, Nicole has been involved in primary school outreach through EBSOC, supporting science education and encouraging early engagement with health and welfare topics. She is interested in education and believes that improving public understanding is fundamental to advancing responsible animal ownership and preventative healthcare. Following graduation, she hopes to pursue a career in clinical practice while contributing to research, and education within veterinary medicine.

Sally May Saclauso

Sally May serves as a Digital Ecosystem & AI Workflow Steward for the Bella Moss Foundation, supporting the Bring Bella Back initiative through thoughtful, AI-assisted digital systems.

Her work focusses on maintaining sustainable social media ecosystems—ensuring that storytelling, tools, and workflows remain aligned, ethical, and human-centred. Rather than simply producing content, Sally designs systems that support continuity, clarity, and long-term impact.

With a background in digital operations and emerging AI applications, she helps mission-driven organisations adopt technology in a way that strengthens—rather than replaces—human voice and purpose.

Sally is particularly interested in bridging gaps between learning, real-world practice, and responsible innovation, especially for initiatives centred on education, advocacy, and community empowerment
