www.onehealthbmf.com Medical and Veterinary Sectors Unite for First Major One Health Conference 13 October 2014, Royal Society of Medicine epidemiology and comparative medicine department The UK's first major 'One Health' conference, bringing together experts on infectious disease from both the medical and veterinary sectors, will take place in October 2014 in London. The One Health Initiative aims to forge greater collaboration between human and veterinary medicine. Titled 'One Health - Making a Powerful Concept Work for Infectious Disease,' the conference will feature speakers and discussion panels, including Professor Peter Borriello, Chief Executive of the Veterinary Medicines Directorate, and Professor Anthony Kessel, Director of Public Health England, discussing issues such as infection control; antimicrobial resistance and the threats posed by emerging zoonotic diseases. The audience will include policy makers and clinicians together with researchers and academics from both human and veterinary medicine. The conference is being organised jointly by the Bella Moss Foundation (BMF) and the Royal Society of Medicine. The BMF is a charity which promoting prudent antimicrobial use and effective infection control in both human and veterinary medicine. The Royal Society of Medicine is an independent educational body for doctors, dentists, scientists and others involved in human health care. Commenting, Jill Moss, President of the Bella Moss Foundation, explained: "Antimicrobial resistance and updated protocols hitting the headlines regularly, our sspeakers will discuss the key issues. For instance, what exactly is the current status of antimicrobial resistance? How is it affecting our lives? What are the veterinary, medical and research professions doing to resolve the challenges we face - and how can they persuade policy makers to take a united stand on the issue?"
