Help the veterinary profession beat antimicrobial resistance – and win an iPad!

VETERINARY surgeons are being urged to share their prescribing experiences in a comprehensive new survey aimed at shining a light on antibiotic usage in pets. The profession is becoming increasingly aware of cases of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), however, more information is needed on how and what drugs are being used by small animal practitioners, as well as the hygiene and infection control measures deployed in practice. Now, owner awareness charity The Bella Moss Foundation (BMF) has teamed up academics at the RVC to create a detailed survey asking vets about prescribing rationale, culturing and infection protocols. Practitioners who take the time to fill in the survey will also be entered into a prize draw to win an iPad2, donated to the survey effort by animal health company Vetoquinol. BMF founder Jill Moss said:

“Please fill in the survey if you want to help us develop greater knowledge on AMR for future generations of vets and owners.

“BMF is the only charity bridging the gap between human and veterinary medicine and the broad issues of infection, hygiene and AMR and we really need your support - we want respondents to be an honest as they can about usage, so the survey can give us a really good snap shot of where the profession is on AMR.” The survey is set to launch at BSAVA Congress and will run in print and online until the end of June 2014. Results will then be revealed at the pan-discipline BMF One Health Conference set to take place in London in October.
