The Bella Moss Foundation Visits Lancashire Dog Show

Jill Moss, President, and Mark Dosher, Secretary and Trustee were guests representing The Bella Moss Foundation at dog show in Lancashire on June 5th.

The invitation had been offered by Charlotte Craig show who organised the show and who is also closely involved in the Samoyed Association rescue programme.

On a beautiful Lancastrian day, Jill and Mark were able to enjoy the pleasure of being surrounded by devoted owners and dogs in a day more about fun and socialising than the importance of winning, and the idyllic surroundings only added to the overall enjoyment of the experience.

Jill and Mark were able to meet many of the owners there showing their dogs, and Mark was able to explain the aims and objectives of the Foundation whilst Jill had the opportunity to talk about the how Bella's memory and spirit became the inspiration for the foundation.

"This was a fantastic opportunity to take our message out to pet owners." Said Jill. "Most of the people there had never heard of the risks of post-operative infections, and the positive response was incredibly rewarding."

After the show Jill and Mark were able to spend time with Charlotte talking about the work the Samoyed Association undertakes in rescuing dogs. "What happened to Bella is a tragedy that everyone in the Samoyed Association would understand, " said Charlotte, "and The Bella Moss Foundation is undertaking some incredibly important work that we all support."

A proportion of the funds raised by the dog show will be donated to the Foundation.

Jill visits Crufts 2005

Jill Moss, Founder and President of The Bella Moss Foundation, talks about her visit to Crufts on its last two days.

  • I must have been the only person there who never really got to see much of the dogs, but I did make some very good and important contacts, especially with other animal welfare charities. In particular, I was able to spend a great deal of time with Chris Lawrence and Dame Clarissa Baldwin, Director and President respectively of the Dogs Trust, Chris was able to offer a great deal of advice and even more encouragement.
  • I spoke to many vets there who were very supportive of the aims and objectives of the Foundation and were also very willing to offer advice from the vet's perspective. A number said that the Foundation could make an important contribution to improving the prevention of serious infections in pets.

  • I also managed to make contact with the Samoyed Association and we spoke at length about my experience of having Bella in my life. I also agreed to contribute to their newsletter.
  • There was enormous interest from the press and I was able to set out what the Foundation hopes to achieve.
  • A great deal of sponsorship interest was shown from a number of sources, and these will be followed up soon.
  • I couldn't believe how many people recognised me, and how many people were really pleased to be able to stop and talk about the care of dogs, the website and the campaign. It really felt as though the Foundation is getting noticed.
  • Out of some of the discussion came the idea of sponsoring specific seminars and presentations at a variety of conferences, and steps are being taken to set this in motion. Next year the Foundation plans to hold its own Conference and dates are being looked at right now.
  • It was agreed by all who had heard of Bella that what happened to her shouldn't happen to a dog.

  • The April update on PETS-MRSA.COM will include a brief account of my visit to a microbiology lab and the help that has been in understanding more about the way MRSA is identified.

    Jill visits Patients' Summit

I attended the Patients' Summit in London on the 14th of April 2005 where many issues concerning MRSA and healthcare were discussed.

During the opening speeches Claire Rayner announced that I was present and asked me to stand up and display the brochure which generated a huge amount of interest. Claire has been an amazing support and for that we thank her. I also had the chance to speak to Leslie Ash, who told me she has a dog that means the world to her and is so shocked to learn that MRSA is now effecting pets that she said, 'It's really getting out of control and we need to do something'. She said the work we are doing is very important.

I also met Dr Phil Hammond (from TVs 'Trust Me I'm A Doctor) who spoke at the end of the day to an invited audience and who showed great interest in the work of the foundation.
